General management action

Routine control of terrestrial and aquatic weeds, including via management agreements with NRM agencies, councils and other organisations.

Routine control of feral animals, including via management agreements with NRM agencies, councils and other organisations.

Targeted revegetation works to increase native vegetation cover over the long term, focussing efforts adjacent to existing remnant vegetation, within threatened ecological communities, within identified regional corridors, and adjacent to rivers, streams and wetlands.

Prevent livestock from having permanent access to rivers, streams and wetlands, and where possible excluding grazing altogether to allow the condition of river banks and wetlands to recover.

Priority management actions for this region

  • Consider establishment of non-fishing zones along reaches of major rivers in your region such as the Condamine River (North Branch) and Oakey Creek, to provide sanctuary zones for species such as Murray Cod, Redclaw Crayfish and Common Yabby.
  • Protect and recover riverine vegetation to provide effective habitat and refugia for species including Duck-billed Platypus, Grey-headed Flying-fox, Australian Lungfish, Eel-tailed Catfish, Redclaw Crayfish and Yellow-belly.
  • Retain surface rocks as habitat for species such as Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby, Short-beaked Echidna and Adorned Delma/
  • Work with the community to control the cane toad as it will impact native animals such as Northern Quoll, Spotted- tailed Quoll, Rainbow Bee-eater, Carpet Python, Common Death Adder and Lace Monitor.
  • Work with the community to control carp as this exotic fish will impact native species such as Eel-tailed Catfish, Australian Lungfish, Common Yabby, Redclaw Crayfish and Yellow-belly.
  • Work with the community to control feral cats and European foxes which prey on native species such as Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby, New Holland Mouse, Australian Painted Snipe, Black-breasted Button-quail, Squatter Pigeon, Adorned Delma, Condamine Earless Dragon and Eastern Blue-tongue Lizard, and complete with others including Northern Quoll and Spotted-tailed Quoll.
  • Work with the community to control feral pigs which can cause considerable damage to wetland systems.
  • Work with the community to control wild dogs which prey on native species such as Koala, Common Brushtail Possum, Duck-billed Platypus and Lace Monitor, as well as calves and lambs.
  • Be aware of animals on the road (e.g. Koala, Northern Quoll, Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby, Tawny Frogmouth and Squatter Pigeon), particularly at dusk and dawn when animals are most susceptible to vehicle strike – practice defensive driving.
