WATER: Probe placement using EM surveys

Irrigation scheduling involves applying the right amount of water, in the right place at the right time in order to maximise production and improve water use efficiency.

Soil moisture monitoring tools are commonly used in the irrigation industry to assist cotton growers with their scheduling decisions. They provide soil moisture information at a specific location within a field.

This fact sheet from CottonInfo's water use efficiency team outlines more.

RAINGROWN: Raingrown (dryland) cotton row spacing options: performance of alternate row, super single and double skip

There has been an increase in the use of super single (33 per cent planted area) row configurations in raingrown cotton in areas where rainfall is unreliable; and alternate row (50 per cent planted area) configurations instead of double row to take advantage of equidistant spacing to improve yield and quality. To allow raingrown growers to choose the appropriate row configurations, information on differences in relative yield and quality potential is important.

RAINGROWN: Raingrown (dryland) cotton - the viable alternative

Growing raingrown (dryland) cotton has become easier in recent times due to major improvements in the farming system.

This booklet, brought to you by a collective of cotton organisations - including CottonInfo, Cotton Australia, Cotton Seed Distributors, CRDC, AgriRisk, Crop Consultants Australia, CGS and Monsanto - outlines the key information growers need to know when considering raingrown as a rotational crop: from benefits and returns to marketing, row spacing, and insect and weed control.
