NUTRITION: CottonInfo cotton nutrition tour booklet

This booklet was produced for CottonInfo's Cotton Nutrition Tour, which took place in February 2016. CottonInfo took 10 CRDC-funded researchers out to cotton farms in five cotton growing valleys across five days, to deliver the latest outcomes from cotton nutrition research.

This booklet contains a summary of the research presented by the researchers (including handouts) and a profile on each of the cotton growers who hosted field days in each valley.

WATER: Smarter Irrigation for Profit - grower led irrigation research in the Gwydir

The Gwydir Valley Irrigators Association (GVIA) is leading an irrigation systems comparisions trial at Moree, comparing the traditional furrow system with bankless channel, lateral move and subsurface drip irrigation. This fact sheet outlines the purpose of the trial.

The trial has recieved funding from CRDC's Smarter irrigation for profit project, part of the Australian Government's Rural R&D for Profit programme.

WATER: Preparing a water budget

A water budget needs to be prepared at the beginning of each season to estimate how much cotton can be grown with the available water. A water budget is part of risk management - that is, it helps to reduce the risk of not having enough water to finish a crop.

To prepare a water budget you need to know 1) your seasonal crop water requirements; 2) the climate and its variability; and 3) the available water supply. This fact sheet outlines the three areas in detail.
