Your electricity bill can be difficult to understand. It is important to know which components of your bill are negotiable so you can minimise your electricity costs.

If you are an irrigator and use more than 160,000 kWh of electricity a year, your electricity bill will look different to your normal household bill. This fact sheet will help clarify the components of your electricity bill and explain the ‘network’ charges.

Pumping represents the most significant cost within an irrigation production system. While changing your pump can deliver significant energy efficiency gains, it can come at a high cost.

The majority of pumps in irrigated agriculture operate on diesel. Cyclical fluctuations in energy costs and improvements in pumping technology means that options around what is the most cost effective energy source for your irrigation enterprise should be assessed.

Infrastructure upgrades may be required to increase the performance and efficiency of your irrigation pump and electrical motors. These upgrades can be effectively ‘paid for’ through reductions in your electricity bills.

More Profit from Nitrogen (MPfN): enhancing the nitrogen use efficiency of intensive cropping and pasture systems is a four year partnership between Australia’s four major intensive users of nitrogenous fertilisers: cotton, dairy, sugar and horticulture - led by CRDC.

This cotton picker clean down checklist from CottonInfo is provided to growers and harvest contractors to assist in the prevention of the spread of pests, weeds and diseases.

In Dec 2016, CottonInfo and various partners hosted the Smarter Irrigation Technology Tour, bringing together irrigators from across four commodity sectors - cotton, sugar, rice and dairy - to see automated irrigation in action in northern VIC and southern NSW.

This booklet contains information about some of the amazing flora and fauna you might see while out enjoying local rivers, and how this natural workforce is providing benefits to our farms and rural communities.
