The Review of Centre Pivot and Lateral Move irrigation installations in the Australian Cotton Industry report is a NSW DPI publication, funded by CRDC, that analyses 173 centre pivot and lateral move irrigation systems irrigating an area of 13,969 hectares.
It looks at the results from a survey conducted in 2001 and repeated in 2011-12, combining the two resulting data sets to provide an examination of changes in design, operation and management of centre pivot and lateral move systems over the decade.
The report has many findings relevant for irrigators, including the fact that the average water applied by centre pivot/lateral move systems in 2011-12 was 30 percent less than that applied using furrow irrigation, while maintaining similar yields.
