General management action

Routine control of terrestrial and aquatic weeds, including via management agreements with NRM agencies, councils and other organisations.

Routine control of feral animals, including via management agreements with NRM agencies, councils and other organisations.

Targeted revegetation works to increase native vegetation cover over the long term, focussing efforts adjacent to existing remnant vegetation, within threatened ecological communities, within identified regional corridors, and adjacent to rivers, streams and wetlands.

Prevent livestock from having permanent access to rivers, streams and wetlands, and where possible excluding grazing altogether to allow the condition of river banks and wetlands to recover.

Priority management actions for this region

  • Avoid removing any areas of Triodia (spinifex or porcupine grass) if it occurs on your property, as this provides important habitat for native animals such as Chestnut Quail-thrush, Shy Heathwren, Malleefowl, Marble-faced Delma and Western Blue-tongue Lizard.
  • Protect and monitor known nesting sites of raptor species such as Black-breasted Buzzard and Wedge-tailed Eagle.
  • Do not remove termite mounds as these are important for native animals such as Short-beaked Echidna and Sand Goanna.
  • Retain surface rocks as habitat for species such as Kultarr, Marble-faced Delma and Western Blue-tongue Lizard.
  • Retain large fallen logs as habitat for species such as Short-beaked Echidna, Gilbert’s Whistler, Shy Heathwren, Sand Goanna and Marble-faced Delma.
  • Retain native grassland and shrubs on the farm for ground-dwelling species such as Kultarr, Malleefowl, Shy Heathwren and Thick-billed Grasswren.
  • Retain stick and leaf litter for ground-dwelling species such as Short-beaked Echidna, Chestnut Quail-thrush, Southern Scrub-robin and Western Blue-tongue Lizard.
  • Work with the community to control the European fox which preys on native species such as Kultarr, Australian Bustard, Malleefowl and Chestnut Quail-thrush.
  • Work with the community to control rabbits which can greatly reduce native grass and herb biomass and cause soil erosion problems.
