During the recent CottonInfo optimising irrigation and nitrogen (N) research tour, three key questions were raised by growers and consultants. To answer these questions, we’ve brought together leading industry experts, David Hall (of David Hall Consulting), Peter Grace (QUT) and Mike Bange (CSIRO) for a webinar:
The three key questions:
- How do I effectively soil test for N? Trial data collected by the CottonInfo REOs found cotton fields showed significant variation in soil N between the head ditch and the tail drain. How is this accounted for when soil testing?
- What are the risks associated with applying N pre-season versus in-crop and the impact of weather patterns?
- How does the plant respond to our N management; how critical is N nutrition at different stages of crop development; and, what happens when we have applied water-run fertiliser during an irrigation, but end up with rain that night or the next day (how does the plant respond?)?
Date: Monday 28th May 2018
